Hi
The birth certificate came and Charles Patrick Moody is my relative :-D So now I have to make sure that he was the Charles who married Agnes :)))
Also the certificate came that I ordered direct from Dublin about another branch of my family and has proved to be very useful so thanks again for that top tip!
Thank you so much <3

Hi
Thank you. I have spotted that tree which is why I wanted to establish for sure that the owner of the tree and I share the same ancestor.... I'm used to finding ancestors who died in WW1& 2 - this would be first to die in Vietnam... :-(
I used the Republic of Ireland link to order a death certificate for a Gt Gt Granmother who died in Sligo in the 1950s. It worked a treat!
Thank You Again

Hi Una - I'm afraid I can't take credit for the useful links - they're from mgnv
I've found a public tree on Ancestry that has details of Charles Patrick Moody's wife and children. His wife was Agnes Davett born 1914 - she died 1946 as a result of complications following the birth of their second son, Francis.
Francis also sadly died very young:
U.S., Vietnam War Military Casualties, 1956-1998 about Francis Moody Name: Francis Moody Birth Date: 2 Oct 1946 Death Date: 14 Nov 1965 Gender: Male Age: 19 Race: Caucasian (White) Home City: New York Home State: New York Religion: Roman Catholic Marital Status: Single (Spouse Not Listed) (Single) SSN/Service #: 12702851 Citizen Status: U.S. Death Date: 14 Nov 1965 Processed Date: Nov 1965 Casualty Country: Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) Casualty Type: Non-Hostile - Died of Illness/Injuries Casualty Reason: Malaria Casualty Air: Ground Casualty Body Status: Body Recovered Service Branch: Department of the Army Component: Regular (RA, USN, USAF, USMC, USCG) Military Grade: Private First Class Pay Grade: Private First Class (U.S. Army) or Airman First Class (U.S. Air Force) or Lance Corporal (U.S. Marine Corps) or Grade/Rate Abbreviations With First Column: A,C,D,F,H,S,Or T; Second Column: A; Third And Fourth Columns: Blank (U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard) Province: 99 Length of Service : 01 Service Occupation: Light Weapons Infantry (ARMY) Data Source: Combat Area Casualties Current File

Thanks for that link to GRO Ireland - I didn't realise you could buy certificates on line for the Republic - the last time I did I bought a certificate from them I had to do it by post and send Euros!

The family are in the 1911 census but their ages have been mistranscribed. Charles Moody is shown as being 17 but the originating census document says 1.7 (as in one year and seven months). He is living at 16 York Street with his Mum and her family. Charles Robert Moody - his father - is living in Skegoneil Street with his mum..... Charles & his wife Nelly were together until they died so I don't know why they are separated in 1911 (family sickness?).
In 1901 Charles Robert Moody has again been mistranscribed his surname is his christian name and vice versa. He is Charles R - and there is just him and his first wife who was also called Nelly (Ellen Wilson) she dies and he married the second Nellie (Ellen McKeown) in 1905.
Marie Celeste thank you so much for those links. I will take a look.
Thank You
Una
Kind Regards
Una <3 <3

Una - since he was born before partition, you can also get his b.cert thru Roscommon. One can purchase certs (or cheaper still, the uncertified images of the rego) via: http://www.groireland.ie/
You can search 1940 (and view images) at: https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=UNITED_STATES
You can search 1930, too, but images are trickier.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XSLP-R68 Household ID: 540 Affiliate Film Number: 444 ***********1 GS Film number: 2340179 Digital Folder Number: 004584245 Image Number: 01002 *************2
Go to: https://archive.org/details/1930_census then Illinois We want NARA reel 444 **1, then read online. Edit the URL https://archive.org/stream/illinoiscensus00reel444#page/n0/mode/2up to https://archive.org/stream/illinoiscensus00reel444#page/n1002/mode/1up changing the page to 1002 **2, and the up-ness. Magnify 4 clicks, then look up a name on this page. E.g., https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XSL5-JGW Image Number: 01008 so click 6 pages previous to: https://archive.org/stream/illinoiscensus00reel444#page/n996/mode/1up [addy=7578 South May St; looks like they were wed with kid(s) in 1901/11 Ireland Jos immig 1923, and most of rest in 1926 -it wasn't unusual for some male to come out first, get stuff sorted, then for the family to join him.]

Hi
No Charles Moody senior didn't emigrate. He was in Belfast from the 1930s as my father remembered him being around all his childhood. However, I think Charles Patrick Moody came back to Ireland later as he appears to have died in Ireland.
Anyway, I will wait and see what the birth certificate says.
Thank you so very very much for your help. I really appreciate it and I will definitely pop back when the birth cert arrives!
Thank you
Una

Well, it's hard to say Una - they do seem to be one and the same.
Have just found this:
New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 Name: Charles Patrick Moody Arrival Date: 20 Jul 1931 Birth Date: abt 1909 Birth Location: Ireland Age: 22 Port of Departure: Mediterranean Ports Port of Arrival: New York, New York Ship Name: Exeter
He's a waiter and the Exeter features on some of the other records I mentioned earlier. On this record his father is Chas Moody of 378 94 Street, Brooklyn - so did his father emigrate too?

Una, getting the birth certificate is the best way to go to be sure of who we're looking at.
This is the naturalisation for a Charles Patrick:
U.S. Naturalization Records Indexes, 1794-1995 Name: Charles Patrick Moody Age: 29 Birth Date: abt 1910 Issue Date: 13 Jun 1939 State: New York Locality, Court: Eastern District of New York, District Court
Very little info other than he lived 1062 Lincoln Place, Brooklyn.

Hi The above Charles Moody seems to have the middle name Patrick, so I have just sent off for a birth certificate for Charles Patrick Moody b1909.
The birth certificate should tell me if the above if he is"my" Charles Moody (My Granny's cousin) as his parents should be Charles Robert Moody & Ellen McKeown.
The Ponsonby Ave is new to me.
His family ran pubs in Belfast so the occupation seems plausible.
The McGowan's are not know to me either (could this be McKeown) but they could be cousins on the mother's side.
Hope that makes sense.
Thank you so much for your kind help.

Rootgatherer is definitely on the right track with the 1930 Merchant Seaman's census posted at 19:23 as this ties it in:
New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 Name: Charles Moody Arrival Date: 20 Sep 1930 Birth Date: abt 1909 Birth Location: Ireland Age: 21 Port of Arrival: New York, New York Ship Name: Leviathan
He's an assistant steward, father is Charles Moody at 20 Ponsonby, Belfast.
Charles still has fresh complexion and brown hair but is strangely now only 5'7"
He made numerous trips back and forth across the Atlantic on various ships during 1930/1931 (might be why I'd initially thought there was more than one) all more or less with the same details.

New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 Name: Charles Moody Arrival Date: 25 Nov 1929 Birth Date: abt 1909 Birth Location: Ni Birth Location Other: white obber (Unreadable) Age: 20 Gender: Male Ethnicity/ Nationality: Irish Port of Departure: Belfast, Northern Ireland Port of Arrival: New York, New York Ship Name: Cameronia
In case it's useful for comparison this young man was 5'10" tall, had fair complexion and dark brown hair.
His father was Charles Moody of the same address as on the outgoing record.
Una - do these details confirm that it is definitely your man?

Hello Una, there was more than one man called Charles Moody born around the same time in Northern Ireland who travelled to the US in 1920s/1930s.
The November 1929 departure on the Cameronia lists Charles Moody as a student aged 20 from Ponsonby Ave, Belfast. Appears to be travelling alone.
How did you get the pre 1935 address? Any clues as to what his occupation was then?
Just want to be sure that the correct records are found for the right man.
