Thanks for the above. Will look on the bayanne - shetland heritage site. They have a very accurate heritage base. Even found my grandfather there in a few minutes as he was married to a Shearer. It took me ages through the normal channels

Further to above-
We do indeed have the correct Jane Jamieson.. Bayanne site shows Jane Irvine Jamieson born Scalloway 2/9/84 - mother Ann Grant Arthur - 5 siblings-of the 5 she and a brother show no known deaths.
In 1901 I have a Jane Jamieson as a housemaid working alongside my paternal GRANDMOTHER Wilhelmina Shearer (Cook) (also from Shetland)at 66, Laverock Bank Road ,Leith Edinburgh. Wilhelmina and Matthew Ewart (David's brother)(married 2/6/1905 in Temple,Midlothian.
I would think that Jane would have met David at sometime before he left for Australia given the foregoing circumstance.
I have a feeling that she actually went to Australia to marry him (a bit romantic!!)
Give that- there is a record of a Janie Jamieson (domestic) leaving London on 11/5/11 on the Orsova bound for Melbourne - Steerage Class. - then a marriage in Victoria in 1911.
It all fits in well.
PS the www.bayanne.info/Shetland is excellent for finding out about anyone who has been born there or married into a shetland family. If anyone does not know about the site I hope this info is usefull

Thanks to all who have helped
