Hi - looks like there is a registration for a Claude a Chapman - Oct 1913 which is the same month as John and Emily married. so very possibly Claude used both his mothers maiden name ( his birth name) and his fathers name, There is a Claude A Chapman on the 1947 Electrol role in Depford married to an Annie Chapman. Was your uncle John known as Jack and remarried a Annie Downing as there are a few trees around with this connection ( but some have their marriage the same as Annie's) |

Hi Astra, just deleted the Claude Archibald bit as I realised it was the wrong year for his birth. <3 |

It's a possibility Jan, I did search the CWGC for him but Nothing found for him, and Witney is not a common name so he should be easy to find, |

I wonder if Emily re-married? Bit of speculation though, as haven't seen a death for John! |
