It's difficult to say, but it's not like you are a skeleon in the cupboard - you're just trying to get some family history relating to your mum's family.

If you are sure you have the right cousin I don't think a letter would cause too much distress it's not like you are too closly related for it to cause problems. - enclose a self addressed envelope or contact details - then like you say it would be up to him.

Good luck

Thanks Flip

No contact as yet, did find her brothers death and have cert which has the name of his son on it but am so worried about distressing people i have held off contacting him. Do you think it would be ok to write to him giving my address and then leave it up to him x also found her sisters nephew on here but he seems reluctant to reply xx skeletons perhaps x

Thinking about this, have you had contact or traced any of the other siblings to your mum & their descendants - they may know more if they stayed in touch with the rest of the family?

If you can connect to any of them it may save on certificates, but otherwise I'd get her birth cert first and take it from there, but post up the details if you do. Then we can look for deaths.

Hi Karrie, well if I was a betting person i'd try getting a copy of the 1975 marriage. The earlier marriages have more or less been eliminated - so unless you know what the L stands for or have her exact dob I don't think we will be able to find her death with any certainty.

I'm guessing you don't have a copy of her original birth cert?

This one is a possibility

I found the same one Pat, also the 1961 ER has them living 15 Twynholme Mansions Fulham. Edith still going by her birth name, his as James F Day. They were living with Jessie & William Durrance, who had been alone at same in 1959/60.

Strange thing though, he's still there in 1962, but the first wife is with him - no Edith and no Durrance's.

Flip,

This might be the death from that 1975 marriage, so a year out for birth - unless the informant made mistake on year?

Edith Lilian Day
Birth Date: 15 Feb 1917
Date of Registration: May 1984
Age at Death: 67
Registration District: Surrey Mid-eastern
Inferred County: Surrey
Volume: 17

Added:
cannot see birth or death for that husband - has he added an initial somewhere?

patchem

patchem Report 9 Feb 2014 08:54

Have you got her exact date of birth, as we can then search for deaths?

Also, what is 'L' ?

Are you sure that she definitely married?

Flip

Flip Report 9 Feb 2014 08:46

i don't want to post the details as it could be completely wrong & a bit to recent.

But could someone else see if they can find out more about the 1975 marriage, as she married using both names, so probably living together before the marriage. A man with the same initials also married in 1931 - so maybe wasn't free to marry?

Flip

Flip Report 9 Feb 2014 07:39

I think you can rule out the 1936 marriage - she appeared with husband on ERs in 1936 as Mary has stated. But your Edith would have only been 18 - so too young to vote.

Personally, I'd try the 1939 marriage to Percy Andrews - it hasn't been ruled out.

Added: On second thoughts there was another Edith L born in the same registration district as this marriage - in 1915, so possibly her marriage.

I've never had this problem, so I don't know, but can't you order one specifying her father's name?

Karen

Karen Report 8 Feb 2014 20:53

Thankyou very much x mary which one would you say is most likely or should i order certs for all , gets a bit expensive when that is the option cheers Karrie

Mary Report 8 Feb 2014 20:09

The one 1936 was Edith louise Baldock and Harry Halls they are on 1936-1939 electoral reg in the Staines Ashford ward.
I can't find a death for her to check birth year.

The 1941 is Edith lilian Baldock to Cecil Frank Burgess isn't her.

Edith Lilian married Percy Andrews 1939 in Kent
Edith lilian Andrews
Born 21/2/1918 died 1991 Southampton.

Edith's mam remarried in Surrey 1938 to Edward J knight.

mmm...you'll just have to take potluck then I guess. Of the four there is one in Liverpool so you could probably rule that one out.....

Balham is nearest to Lambeth I think!

She was my mother's sister , mum left London at 17 and never went baxk or contacted anyfamily again. The only contact I remember is a letter from her brother when I was about ten so I have very little to go on.

Cheers Karrie

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 8 Feb 2014 11:47

Personally I'd go for the Lambeth one....

However are you sure she stayed in London during the war? There are four marriages for Edith L Baldock!

How do you connect to her?

Jude
