I am trying to help someone with their tree but have failed to find a baptism for the above chappie.

According to the parish record of his marriage in 1879 his father was also Benjamin.

I have looked on IGI and FreeReg to no avail so I would be very happy if someone else could have a go please!

If it is, then maybe he was baptised under the name Brighton.
Could be he was illegitiamte but father recognised him????

Sorry - the GR site is working painfully s-l-o-w-l-y for me today.

This is one of those messy ones I'm afraid. He married under the above name, but subsequently used the surname Brighton.

On the Birth Cert. of his son Arthur he called himself Benjamin Pagett and the child's mother was Harriet Brighton (but her maiden name was actually Jones). Are you still with me?!

So that was either a mistake or they thought one of them had to have the surname Brighton to be able to pass it on to their son.

The suspicion is that Benjamin was illegitimate; that perhaps Brighton was his birth father's name and that he decided to use it.

There is a birth reg on FreeBMD for a Benjamin Pagett Pagett (sic) in Walsall 1859 which could be him.

Yes that it the correct family, but I cannot see Benjamin on earlier census returns.
