	It would be unusual at his age ... but he might have been in the Anglo-Boer War in 1901. A twig on my tree who was born abt 1858 was in the Imperial Yeomanry in that war, although he had remained a captain of reserve after his earlier spell in the military. http://britishmedals.us/files/iyc.htm there are several William Cox-s listed there and FMP lists others who were in regular regiments rather than the IY http://www.findmypast.co.uk/boer-war-register-search-start.action?product=BW but unfortunately not even birthdates are given so it would be a matter of viewing the records this is another question you have marked answered and yet it doesn't seem to be re William ... :-S why not just leave that 'answered' button alone ??
