Karl Reiner from Germany

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Unknown Report 17 Jan 2014 10:47

My great great grandfather Karl Reiner came over to UK from Germany around 1835 and was appointed as a tutor to one of Queen Victioria's children. However the only person he ever told about his origins was Queen Victoria herself. Does anyone have experience of tracing ancestors in Germany and what resources are available?

No record of him on any UK census - or on freebmd

How did you work back to him?

And, if you know that he came from Germany, he must have told someone other than the Queen

Thanks for all your feedback which very helpful. I had traced him in UK first in Cheam where he taught at Cheam School and then to London and I also have his descendants. However it is his German ancestry that I am wondering how to trace.

Just a note from rootsweb: Message Boards.

There is a message for the Reiner family - although it goes back to 2006 - lists below some names: It is connected through Central Europe - Germany, etc.

Here is a brief of the names selected: There are some recommendations. I am not sure if this is where you wish to go back to as you have the British connection, but this may just help.

Re: Reiner or Reiners or Reinert

Classification: Query
Surnames: Reiner, Reiners, Reinert

in Germany you lease a grave for 20 or 25 or 30 years (it varies from place to place), there are almost never really old graves.

You better have a look at emigrant lists such as

Konrad Reiner 1851 Nordamerika Ellwangen (Jagst)

There are also some 400 Reiner/Reiners/Reinert in
