I am looking for the decendents of Robert Ansell /Hansell. Robert was the son of Abraham Ansell born in Stevenage but brought up by George Ansell his brother.
Robert was born in Darwen Lancashire as Robert Hansell. He had a sister, Betsy Jane. He also had various half siblings with George being the father. On of these was my grandmother Alice Hansell.

I am not sure how George's children could be have siblings to Robert if George was Robert's uncle? Surely they would be cousins. Are you absolutely certain that Robert wasn't George's son?

Thank you all for answering my query.
To answer rootgatherer, Abraham Ansell and George Ansell were bothers.
Abraham married Elizabeth Ann Whittle, had Robert and Betsy Jane and then left her. Brother George then took over and had numerous other children with Elizabeth Ann who were half brothers and sisters to Robert.
Hope that explains it.
The Abraham Ansell married to Charlotte is NOT my Abraham. They were cousins.
My Abraham disappeared before the 1881 census and I cannot find him anywhere.
