Free bmd does not have complete coverage, particularly for some of the war years, so Ivor is not showing there.

hi Jude and patchem you are both hitting the nail on the head harry Goddard born 1887/8 (christened in 1887 but record state born 1888?) I cant find them in 1911 census I believe Harrys dad , Angies great granddad also called harry was in the second boer war as he is missing from the 1901 census ,it is also believed that harry angies granddad born 1888 was a soldier in one of the world wars as he was possibly gassed as his health was not good, ivor henry goddard his son now deceased recollects he died aged approx. 55 yrs old thanks again angela and terry

hi Reggie you state you found Ivor as youngest of nine children there was actually 7 living children Joan dob 1923 Charles 1926 Dennis 1928 ray 1930 Betty 1935 but died at 2 months of age Jeffrey 1938 Ivor henry 1940 but from family history there was a couple of still born so is it possible you could forward me the information you have if these match many thanks for your help and help from others

we have his birth date as 1887/88 at 17 Phillips st west ham Plaistow st Matthias district municipal ward Hudson's

on 1901 census age 13 a platers boy'

I can find that family in 1901 as well but not in 1911

So we go back to my suggestion that the informant did not know the actual date of birth.

I suspect the 1894 birth is not correct...I think might be him in 1891

It is not the cut-off date, it is just poor for several war years.

Yes it's on Ancestry too..didn't realise that 1940 was the cut off date (at present ) on freebmd...

That is how I was able to state last night that he was born in Warwickshire

You state there was a child Ivor Henry born in 1940 - on what basis do you know this?

There are eight possible children born between 1921 and 1938 all in Birmingham - and if the daughter Joan S is correct then a previously born Joan E is likely not to be their's. But none of those children are Ivor....

The man's marriage cert will have a note of his declared age at the time.

Where did you find his birth as 1887 in West Ham?

Perhaps the informant did not actually know his age?
