I'd be grateful for any help regarding the Rev Benjamin B G Astley (later Ludford-Astley)'s children by his first wife, Susanna Louisa Pleydell-Bouverie, who died in 1854. Rather oddly the couple are listed twice in the 1851 census. In one entry their names, together with that of their 2 year old daughter Emma Edith, have been crossed out. They are also listed as staying with the Rev Astley's father-in-law Frederick Pleydell-Bouverie, but their child is named as 1 month old Edith. In 1861 the Rev Astley was living with his 8 year old son Francis, who may have been the 'Francis Lukeford Astley' boarding at the General Hospital in St Helier, Jersey, in 1881. |

They married in 1850, it would be a bit odd though by no means impossible for a Vicar to have a child born before his marriage.... |

Not seeing anything for an Emma Edith (although I do agree that's what is written on the 1851 census) I am sure you have seen this. It just seems so strange that there is not a birth for Emma Edith. |

Given that they married in 1850 and she died in 1854, it seems to me that they had two children - Susan Edith who died a baby and Francis who is the person found in Jersey in 1881. |

I would concur with PH.....the corrected age for the child on the 1851 she posted is definitely 2 months |

I've had a look but there's nothing I can do until the beginning of Jan when the Archive re-opens. |
