I was helping another member the other day and a copy of a death cert was posted online.

It said something like, died of poisoning, hydrochloride, self induced

Pretty conclusive I would say

Maryroots,

Do you want to give us any details and we can take a look to see what we can find?

If you feel that it is too sensitive to post on here, please feel free to e-mail me with the details.

I don't think a death cert would tell you if someone commited suicide.

Under cause of death it might say 'asphyxiation''

It might well be that he had a rope round his neck and jumped from a tree ( or similar circumstance) but a death cert wont tell you that, only that he died because of a lack of oxygen to the brain

An inquest ( or coroners report) might

Surely it depends if it was obviously suicide and suicide is not the actual cause?
If one falls off a cliff, it could be accidental, and the injuries received are the cause of death.

You did not say which country, suicide not mentioned in Scotland now:

You should do - the newspapers held on GR from the British Newspaper Archive stop at 1950.

If nothing is there, then a local paper might have carried an article - check with the nearest Library or Archive. If you can't visit, they may make a charge to search on your behalf.

If that is what the cause of death was, then yes it would. If that was the case you may also find that an inquest was held, and that details may have been reported in local newspaper.
