Higham

Higham Report 20 Dec 2013 18:32

Hi Ann. Great Sankey is in the borough of Warrington. I do have John's abode as in Croft, and the baptism of two of his children at St. Oswald's in Winwick. Altough I do not know the area, Croft and Winwick are very close together, slightly north of Warrington, but well south of Wigan.Eccles is in Salford, a fair way to the North-East of Warrington. Lowton is an area which features a lot later in my tree and that is close to Croft, Winwick and Kenyon.
I suppose there is a chance that John was not baptised, which is maybe why I can not definitively find his birth and parents. I believe he was illiterate. His son George my 3G G/Father was born in 1801 in Croft.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 17 Dec 2013 16:52

of those three possibles I posted, are any of the locations near to Warrington?

Higham Report 15 Dec 2013 14:32

Thanks to all who bothered to reply to my very first thread. Especially Ann Cardiff for her detailed info. Unfortunately I am non the wiser as to who are John Higham's parents. I already had the 3 sets of parents mentioned from parish records. What I am trying to confirm is which one of the 3 parents is the definitve pair. I know there is only one John Higham christened in 1779, which would point to Samuel as his father, but there is an element of doubt in my mind, as most of my ancestors were named either John or George and Samuel would be a deviation from this trend. As it has been some years since I acquired John's details of his birth (1779) it must be Samuel, but I do not wish to go wrong with such an important of my tree.
I was hoping for any member who has John on their tree to confirm his parents for me as I have hit a dead end. I am not confident enough to pick the correct parents from the 3 Ann and myself have found. I definitely believe it be one of the 3. But which one?
Many thanks to you all.
