There is a birth in late 1872 in Mile End.......but until 1875, there were no penalties for not registering, so may not be recorded.

Regarding Charles Joseph Reynolds, born 1872 mile end ? have not got his birth certificate , his marriage certificate states that his father William j Reynolds is a mech engineer, but there is a william james reynolds who married catherine fielder 1872 mile end, did she die,and he re-married ???
there is a william j reynolds engineer in the hackney/london censuses he married in 1880 to maria l matthew,
1901 census charles is down as being born in forest gate,he is a deck hand on steamer,
1911 stephney , he is still deck hand, cannot find no trace of him in any other censuses, have found chas j reynolds in the merchant seaman register,

regard charles j reynolds he married in plymouth in 1895

Okay so the marriage was in Plymouth in 1895 to Thirza Willcocks

William James Reynolds that married Catherine Fielder in 1872 was a lighterman

Thanks for replying have both 1901/1911 census but cannot find any trace of him prior to that .he is probably in the merchant navy, his birth cert states his father william james as a engineer , was he born out of wedlock ? was his father john not william james reynolds the engineer from hackney ? charles joseph is my g/grandfather his son william went to live in london as did harry the boxer

Frank, do you really mean birth certificate in your post above?

I'm guessing you meant to type marriage certificate, otherwise, you would already know Charles' mother's name.

Have you ordered the 1872 birth certificate that Reggie mentioned? This looks like the best way to find out more about him.
