Yes, very sad for a whole family to be wiped out in a few days.

Like Potty, I can't find a service record for Charles - but like you say most were destroyed, and if the whole family had died would he have been awarded a medal?

Thanks Flip

What ever happened its sad - I could see they died quite close together but had not thought to look for Charles service records. I suppose I really need to get all 3 death certs. to get to finding out the truth,
It is poss that Charles service records got destroyed as a lot of them did during a fire in WW2 so I may never find that one out.

I use Cheshire BMD a lot as most of my ancestors are from Cheshire

His wife was registered on the page before Charles, and the 2 children a couple of pages later - so it looks like they may all have died within days of each other.

That was from freebmd, but Cheshirebmd has Charles on ref 66 & Beatrice on 67 - so not sure who died first - again both children later pages.

Oddly, I cannot find a medal card for Charles using both regiments and Nos, which make me wonder if he served abroad. Have you found him in 1911? As his wife died before him, he could have been home on compassionate leave.

Thanks all - as always

it certainly helps having someone else look at things for you, you go a little blind when you have been looking at your own tree for ages.

Don't you just love the 1911 census for Beatrice, - with father James, mother Martha, although Beatrice has been crossed out as not at home. They've named the whole family, including their 2 dead children.

Although this doesn't help you find the cause of death for Beatrice, Martha or Charles jnr, but as they were all in the same quarter I would imagine your theory of flu (which can lead to pneumonia) would be the most likely.

Ah so we was repatriated home then! Most of my relatives then was in Bunbury and most of them married or are buried at St Boniface Church. This will lead to another question that has been bugging me for ages as I have been trying to find out if there was a military hospital close my, or somewhere were soldiers were nursed back to health? I have tried to look this up but can not find anything, May post this separately.

Hi and thanks

I will get the death certs - I know some of my family all died of flu and another great aunt took her brothers children in ( after her brother and wife died along with their youngest child)

Does look like Charles died in service so will be interesting to see if he was sent home following being injured.

thanks

I can see why you are thinking flu as there was a disastrous pandemic at that time. But as GlitterBaby says, you need a death cert to be sure.
