I have been helping a friend with lookups and sending her some census through Ancestry. She has'nt recieved anything I sent.

I rang to find out why and was told you can only send info of actual census if the other person has an Ancestry sub.

It was'nt always like this was it?

I have done it many times helping people without a sub like family and friends.

Can't you save the images to your computer and send them as e-mail attachments

I don't subscribe to Ancestry at present, but that was what I used to do when I was using the site.

Usually you could but the info was only open to view for a short time.

Maybe Ancestry has found this lost them money so now require people to have membership .

Its all money making these days I,m afraid

I regularly download images for census/military/parish records from ancestry to my computer and send them by pm (via GR) or e-mail - it always works. However it doesn't work if you try to send the link/image direct from ancestry - you have to have a sub to view.

ErikaH Report 4 Nov 2013 16:47

And if someone has a sub, they can get the info themselves.

Morning All,

Thanks for your replies guys and girls. Have been a bit out of commition with a bad arm and then oh's birthday came along so we have been out and about.

The funny thing is when I sent the census images via email by clicking on the green envelope they had a message come up that they had been sent. The person I sent them to did'nt recieve anything.

May have another go.............................................

Hi Mel,
Ancestry doesn't have an email facility and I therefore presume you mean the messaging service. ( green envelope)
There is no facility to add attachments, so I guess you are pasting the census link within the text f

Only someone with an Anc acct can open and view the link, but it doesn't explain why the other person isn't receiving your message.

I have had my doubts for a while about Anc messages.
I am certain that I am not receiving messages that have been sent to me .
I am also sure that ones I received very recently were actually sent quite some time ago.... and only now found their way to my inbox.

We've recommended some family & friends for you to email:

Unfortunately, we have no suggestions. You can still share with people by entering their emails below.
..
Or enter email addresses in the field below (separate each address with a comma):

It is different to what it used to say....but doesn't say the recipient needs to have a sub

it's really so simple and I have to repeat:

Right click on the page that you wish to send.

On the drop down menu click on "E-mail picture"

Another drop down menu asks if you want to make the picture smaller or keep original size. I always keep original size.

On the next screen you just have to type in the e-mail address and send.

I right clicked on the image of gt grandparents marriage cert

The only email option I got was...E Mail with windows live

I then clicked that, it took me to my Hotmail signing in page

So I cannot see that as being easy...when all you did before was clicked envelope and add email address...send

If it is for a Genes member...I would snip the image then send it by pm...no need for emails

Margee,
Not so simple for me.....
i accessed a random Canadian census and right clicked on the image
My only options are:

Back
Reload Page
Open in Dashboard
View Source
Save page as.... (only save options are: Page Source or Web Archive)
Print page

If I right click on the green envelope:
My only option is to COPY LINK
If i left click.
It automatically takes me to my messages

I am not PC literate and don't know whether the differences stem from our Ancestry accts or our PCs ?
I use a Mac but will also check on my widows PC

Hi All,

Yes I click on the green envelope and get the box come up where you enter the email address. Done that and I can see what is to be sent by clicking on something else on that page but still my friend dos'nt get it!!

I am self taught on the pc and my oh does all the other stuff.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 8 Nov 2013 10:10

You also had a little message box on the old Anc. which you don't have now.

I tried it...right click doesn't work. But click on the envelope and type in the email address and it sends link...which can then be downloaded and saved.

Having no problems at all sending images via the green envelope on Ancestry. Have sent some to my work email address and accessed via work laptop just to make double sure it's not using my log-in details - can access the images just fine and saved them.

Mel, apologies for stating the obvious, but have you checked that your friend has given you the correct email address?
EDIT: Has she checked her spam/junk folder?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Nov 2013 10:38

I had'nt thought of that Marie C.

I should think she has as she is quite young and should be better at using the pc than me!!

I have emailed her and she has replied so I know I have the right address.

Thanks for your replies all.

I'm still at a loss!
Right clicking on the image or green envelope produces no email options for me

I have tried using various search engines , including Safari and Google Chrome.
As I have a WW sub, and usually logon to .co.uk
I retried under various others. For Example: .com/.au/.ca
I tried also by changing various things in my my preferences, including allowing others to see my email address

I still don't get any options to email, ether via an image or via the green envelope
