What Reggie said was there are no pre 1890 shipping records on Find My Past (FMP) website. |

Thank you Sue, Yes, I do know about the Slave Registers. Roberts Mother's Brother, William Mackie also owned Plantations over there hence the Mackie name. The slaves on the Plantations often took the surname of the owner. What I wanted to know was exactly in what year Robert left Scotland for Jamaica. Another researcher has told me that there are no Shipping Records pre 1890 so perhaps I will never know. |

Can anyone help with shipping records from Scotland to Jamaica (West Indies). Robert Roy B.1789 travelled to Jamaica possibily 1808 to oversee or be a book keeper on a Sugar Plantation. I would like to know exactly when he first travelled to Jamaica. He was born in Kinloss, Moray in the North of Scotland and his parents were peter Roy and Margaret Mackie. Any help would be appreciated. |
