Hi Kevin,

As usual the earlier help given is all correct.

Jane baptised 3rd Jan 1864, same church as the Marriage, daughter of Mary Dorrington, single woman

Image on way.

Kind regards
Amanda

Edit Baptism of William Kingaby 1865 also sent

Amanda,

Hi Kevin,

The marriage just says both of full age, although she is a Spinster, he is a Widower.
Witnesses were Benjamin Wallis and Susan Dorrington.
David's father was David Dorrington deceased Labourer
Lydia's father was William Bonney deceased Labourer

Am just about to PM the record to you.

Kind regards
Amanda

Kevin Report 24 Oct 2013 16:45

just found a potential marriage record of David Dorrington and a Lydia Bonney in Epping in 1841 Q 1 vol 12 125
Could this be?
Anyone got access to parish/church records so we can check ages????
thanks

She then changed her name back to Dorrington for purposes of marriage etc
Her step brother lives with her for a while and eventually her 'dad' lives with her after her mum dies.
She takes her 'nickname' Louie or Louise and uses that on all future docs
blimey what a family!

Kevin Report 24 Oct 2013 15:53

All correct assumptions I think and backed up by evidence- you lot are amazing.
:-D
So Mary Ann had an illigitimate child in 1863 Called Jane- shipped off to live with her parents and even though Mary Ann got married in 1864 stayed with the grandparents. She eventually took he rmothers married name but was that her real fathers name? who knows!

I'm stuggling to read this, but the son William Kingaby appears to have enlisted in 1885, naming his father and sister Louise as nok. Louise of 12 Burgess rd??, she is then crossed out and replaced by his wife Catherine (nee Kelleher) who he married 21/4/1889. (Image 7114)

William Kingaby
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1864
Age at enlistment: 21
Birth Parish: Harlow
Birth County: Essex
Document Year: 1885
Regimental Number: 6489
Regiment Name: Commiss' & Tp Corps
Number of images: 6

Added: Louie Leighton is at 12 Burgess road on the 1891 census - so he considers her to be his sister!

I think William Kingaby (King(s)ley) is her birth father and that's why she was recorded by her grandparents as Kingley on the 1881.

MaureeninNY Report 20 Oct 2013 08:17

Quite agree,Flip.

Difficult to prove that Jane morphed into Louie but I do think they are the same woman.

:-P :-P :-P
I don't like "doing" Kevin's family.
What a tough bunch to follow! :-D ;-)

Further evidence to suggest Jane/Louie was Lydia/David's grandchild, not daughter. Lydia made it through to the 1911 census, on the image she has written 7 children born, 2 have died. Looking at the 1851/61 census she has the following:

George/Mary/Lydia/Sarah/John/David/Charlotte = 7 children

Flip

Flip Report 20 Oct 2013 07:28

For what it's worth, I think Jane/Louie Dorrington was Mary Ann's illegitimate daughter, and lived with grandparents. The 1891 census has William & Mary Ann Kingaby still together, but I think this is her death:

Deaths Mar 1899 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kingaby Mary Ann 57 W. Ham 4a 163

Then in 1901, he appears as William Kingsley, with the Leightons:

Louis Leighton
Age: 37
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1864
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: Frederick Leighton
Father's Name: William Kingsley
Where born: Epping, Essex, England

Civil Parish: West Ham
Ecclesiastical parish: St James
County/Island: Essex
Country: England

Street Address:

Occupation:

Condition as to marriage:

Education:

Employment status: View Image

Registration District: West Ham
Sub-registration District: Forest Gate
ED, institution, or vessel: 34

Household Schedule Number: 146

Page Number: 22
Household Members: Name Age
Frederick Leighton 43
Louis Leighton 37
Mary E D Leighton 15
Frederick W Leighton 13
Alfred H Leighton 10
Nellie Leighton 8
Charles A Leighton 7
Elsie Leighton 5
Laura Leighton 3
William Leighton 65 (brother)
William Kingsley 60 (f-in-l, housepainter, born Hackney)
Edward Marchant 38

The occupation and place of birth are consistent throughout the census. So if Louie knew her mother was Mary Ann, then it should be safe to assume she would consider William her "father".

Confused as usual!!!

Kevin, you said "I did find a girl birth in 1863 illegitimate Jane Dorrington born to Mary Ann Dorrington".
Was this from an actual birth cert?

So we're thinking that Jane and Loui** are the same person????

I think the name on the 1881 IS Jane, the J is the same as elsewhere on the page (see the John and James) but the descender on the "y" in Lydia is in front of it.
