but I can't find Josepf and Ellen being born as I am not sure where they came from. Can anybody see their places of birth please?

Married 2 years so the children must be from Joseph's previous marriage.

John Arthur Wallace stepson so was that ellen's name when she married Joseph?

also Olive Wallace and Harold Wallace.

I didn't realize there were others on the census besides Rhodes. It looks like a birth certificate of one of the earlier children is needed to find the mother. I will have to put this aside for a while.

It is not complicated Frances.

Joseph Rhodes married Emily Kate Duncan in 1891 in Chesterfeild Derby. Had children but Emily Kate died in 1907.

He then married the widow of John Wallace, Ellen Wallace nee Clay in 1908 so her children are on the 1911 with Joseph's children by his previous marriage.

So Ellen is not really related to you and it is Emily Kate Duncan born in Scotland I think who is your relly if it is one of Joseph's children your line comes from.
