Hi Are there any indexes available for BDMs in Brooklyn, Kings, or Jersey, United States.
I am trying to obtain a death cert of Edward Richard Perks (born abt 1831) who died 29 Dec 1883 and was buried at Greenwood cemetery on 2 Jan 1884. This info come from Greenwood cemetery. He died from an accidental fall so wonder if there was anything in a newspaper. I have tried to obtain a death cert for him but searchs come back negative (City of New York Municipal Archives) Edward was born in England married Sarah Riley Taylor 1863 in Birmingham.
Also trying to find the birth of his son Edward Richard Perks. Have managed to obtain a death certficate for him for 16 Feb 1876 at Kings, New York. He was aged 3 yrs 29 days at date of death, birth was listed as Brooklyn. He is also buried at Greenwood cemetery. I have tried to obtain a birth cert for this child but that has also come back negative (City of New York, Municipal Archives).
I would also love to find out if there are any more children from the marriage of Edward Richard Perks to Sarah Riley Taylor. They emigrated from Birmingham, Warwickshire to America. The first instance of them in USA is in the Gopsill's Jersey City directory 1867. Sarah is a milliner. Edward was a chemist. It looks like Edward was in Brooklyn from 1871-1884.
I would love any help towards finding more on this couple in the USA.
Regards Irene

Hi all,
Thank you very much for this info. Great to see all this interesting information and it helps to fill in some of the gaps. Thats great to have a baptism, marriage and naturalization info. Interesting about the manslaughter acquittal. Maybe that is why they left Birmingham. I appreciate your kindness in helping me out.

The manslaughter incident sounds like a terrible accident
Publication:Berkshire Chronicle Publication date:Saturday 15 February 1862
Article text: Edward Perks, a druggist's assistant at Lichfield, has been committed for trial for manslaughter, but bailed in £600, for labelling "Ethiop's mineral" as "Turpeth's," whereby a farmer named Winter came by his death, he having taken it as medicine.

I keep trying to find what I saw on this site: http://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html
but I think they are doing some work on it at the moment.
IF it works again-just input Edward Perks with exact phrase ticked.
The second to last citation is your fellow. Fell off a pier.

Hi Thanks all for the info. I have been in touch with the Greenwood cemetery and they have given me the burial plot number and his date of death but the New York Archives could not find a death cert for him so don't know where he died except the cemetery people were able to tell me it was an accidental death. Looks like he had a son also Edward Richard Perks who died aged 3 yrs 29 days and is also buried at Greenwood but I would have to pay to find out more details for him which I may have to consider later.
Thank you for all the directory info and the marriage info. If he was in the US five years before his naturalization you would think that he would be on a census somewhere.
I appreciate all the help very much. Thanks.

Hi Irene,
No date.(Actually when you see the newspaper page it's a little ragged but obviously between Christmas and New Year's Day.)
Are you doing as I suggested?
Have you been able to see the uploaded pdf page?
If so...try mid-way down the third to last column of the page.
I'm not sure what else to suggest. :-)

The newspaper article is from the Brooklyn Union, 1883. It basically says that he had fallen into the river from the Battery pier at 7:30 p.m., had been attended by an ambulance surgeon but refused to go to hospital and his friends took him home in a coach. At 11:00 p.m. that night a doctor was called but Edward died before the doctor arrived.
