Flip I use the National Newspaper which covers Scotland as well

He obviously died before the 1940 Oct. but it looks as if the death
not indexed.

but he did seem to live or be in Plymouth a lot

He had been known to visit Scotland, wonder if he went there to give a talk and died in Scotland? Mavis do you have access to Scotland's newspapers on the site you are using?

Strange he dropped off the ERs after 1937, when the other family were still there the following year though.

He has died between this date and Oct 1940 -- he is stated as deceased on the death report

Western Morning News wed 23rd Oct 1940 [I hav'nt put all of it ]

Dr Vawdrey / Conservative

one of his hobbies was attending Radical and Socialist meetings on the North Quay -- he often crossed swords with the late Mr George Ebury

but not found a recorded death -- perhaps Plymouth Devon might be able to help

Thank you all for replies. I have a great deal information now but the Blackburn link is one that puzzles. Will follow advice re school and library and see what they come up with. I also still can't find a date and place of death for George Ebury born 1867 in Kidderminster. He was alive and kicking in 1922 when he stood against Nancy Astor in an election for Parliament, as the organiser of the National Unemployed Committee Again. I have lots of info on George up to 1922 with a possible last known address, from the electoral role entry of 1937 , 69 Lady Margaret Road, Camden, St Pancras, London where a George Ebury is living with Amanda Ebury, Eva Alice Ebury, George William Ebury, Leonard Ebury and Susan Jane Ebury, If this is 'my' George he would be about 70 then. I have drawn a complete blank trying to find a date of death. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Did you do any research between September and today?

Did you follow the excellent advice about contacting Blackburn Library?

I received this...............

Thank you for the response ...Just picking up again after a break and answereing your queries. My mother, Lillian Mabel Povey, daughter of Thomas Povey and Lillian Jane Marson, was sent to Blackburn with her younger brother after their mother died in January 1916 having given birth to illegitimate twins on Dec 23rd 1915. Apart from saying how good the school, St Silas's was, she was reticent about the time in Blackburn, but wasn't having a good time. she said the twins were granny reared but I don't know where...in Blackburn to hide the shame? I got the impression the babies were next door in Blackburn. Do wish I'd asked more questions. In May 1916 Thomas married his deceased wife's younger sister Lizzie and Mum went back home with her aunt as her new Mama. Relations were not good. Regards Joan

Do not click on my name, Joan. You know how to reply on here Thank you

Only 1 Povey family in Blackburn in 1901 and 1911 - George has died between the two census, but this shows where he was originally from which is a tad closer to S-on-T .

Annie would appear to have been a Smith on marriage, looking at the records

Just returning to Family history research and frustrated that the Blackburn connection is still a mystery. that Mum and her brother were there is an undisputed fact and it was relatives I'm sure .....Povey or Marson connection somewhere.

Joan

Joan Report 3 Sep 2013 12:39

Thank you very much every one for all your suggestions. Mum's name was/is Lillian Mabel Marson so I think the Haworth's had moved as that name isn't one I know. I am researching my maternal family history and know that mum was at that address with her brother Jack in 1916 and was a pupil at St Silas' School.

Try contacting the library in Blackburn to see if they hold the rates books for the period.
If they have, it will tell you who owned the house & with luck, the name of the current (1916) tenant , the rateable value of the property & how much rates were paid (not that that really matters)

Dea

Dea Report 2 Sep 2013 12:46

Looking at Harry's Army records it seems that they had moved to 1, Higher Bank Rd. by November 1915 so someone else was obviously living at the Duke's Row house by then :-(

I'm not sure that Stoke authorities will be able to help with info about an address in Blackburn.

Why do you need this info?

Or is it that you just want it?

What is the source of your info about the address?

Have you tried researching your mother's relations?
