I overheard my Grandmother talking to a professional person at the time of my mothers divorce, and she said of course you know he is not his father, referring to my stepfather. After my grandparents death my two uncles met my biological father (who they knew from the time of my birth) on a train, they told him about me, and he told them he was married. I did not ever feel that I could ask my mother about the details, but after her death my uncle told me that my father's family were Trawler Owners in Grimsby, and I was named after him on my birth certificate (Alfred Hudson Cumberland). I have since found out from my sister that a one off payment was made to my mother by my father acknowledging me as his child. That is all the information I have to go on. |

As I said before, initially email or even phone up any contacts you have found, such as the Hull History centre, to see what they can tell you about the documents they have and how you can access them. |

Might be worth making the trip to Hull to find out what they have? |

I think he was probably already married when he met my mother during the war, He is not on my Birth Certificate. But my name is Alfred Hudson Cumberland on the birth certificate. I was adopted by my mothers husband when I was 3 years old and did not know he was not my father, my stepfather was a prisoner of war when I was born in Belfast, and I was brought up by my grandparents until I was 3 years old when I came to live with my mother & stepfather in Brighton. I am sure Hudson Brothers Trawler Co Ltd must be quite well known in Hull & Grimsby and there is probably a lot of historical documents available, its just finding out the best way of accessing the information. Thank you very much for the help you have offered to me. |

Their are 5 births for a Alfred Hudson born between 1911 and 1926 Sculcoates and all list the mothers maiden name, To find mothers Christian names look for a marriage between both surnames. |

I have looked up the two Births for Sculcoats, but I do not know what his mothers name was so how can I be sure it is the correct Alfred Hudson? |

I have joined the East Yorkshire Family History Society (EYFHS). There is a lot of information available in Hull but if I went there myself I think I would just waste my time without a plan of action? I had hoped that they may have had members that would be able to help new members. They have a Maritime Museum that holds a lot of documentation on the Fishing Industry's History in the city, but I don't know if I would be able to access this myself. |

I am trying to trace details of my biological Father (Alfred Hudson), I do not have any family history for his side of the family. All I know is that his family were Trawler Owners in Hull & Grimsby in the 20th century (Hudson Brothers Steamship Co). I have been able to find references to him in the Hull Daily Mail of Mon Feb 11th 1946 where he was reported on giving a lecture on "Hulls Fishing Industry" to the branch of the Geograhical Association, at that meeting a number of members were present for the first time following their demobilisation. I would estimate his birth about 1920 and his ship was stationed in Belfast Nr Ireland in 1943 during WW2. I know it is not a lot to go on, and I am a novice when it comes to researching family history. Any help would be much appreciated, and a photograph is what I would treasure most. |
