I sent of for the marriage certificate of my grt grt grandmother Harriet Mason born about 1814 from buckinghamshire. On the 1841 census she lived in Tonbridge Kent with William Mason born in Tonbridge about 1804, William died 1853. Then Harriet married William Brook in1869 , thinking I would find her maiden name on the certificate as I could find nothing on her first marriage but it said her fathers name was John Mason, it seems very odd and I cant go any further. |

Lesley, what did it say for her marital status on the 1869 certificate, was she shown as a widow? |

Why do you think there was a marriage prior to the one for which you have the cert? |

A stupid question but are you sure that the Harriet Mason who married William Brook is the same woman? |

Well done Mary. Here is the FMP version of the same 1861. The original says Harriet not Hannah and Grandson Henry was 5 so birth 1856 not 1846 |
