Here is a few free site to find the Hansford (or any other)

TROVE online newspapers - the Aust govt kindly put all (as many) historical newspapers online.. follow your relatives via article/bdm notices..

Thank you Chris that's interesting.

Daughter Julia married a James Bridgland (second marriage) and in 1871 she is living in Brighton. She also appears in all UK censuses up until 1911 and dies in London in 1918.

This seems to support the theory that she was not the Julia who went to Queensland

I had seen John and Julia on the passenger list and wondered if their ages had been transcribed wrongly. I don't know about John but Julia was baptized in Jersey 23/10/1805, her parents were Jacques Goillon and Jeanne, so not the same as on the death record but then she wasn't around to tell them if they'd got it wrong.

John and Julia did have children John and Julia, John baptized 1829 and Julia 1832.

Do Australian death records give ages at death?

Looking at the Hansford party who arrived on Gauntlet in 1875.
I wonder if John and Julia ARE the parents, entered with the wrong ages?

Have you positively identified the people called John and Julia on this ship?

It's possible that Julia, daughter of John and Julia married James Bridgeland and remained in the UK, with her brother Thomas
Nor can I find any trace of a younger Julia in Queensland after this arrival.
Most of the others can be identified from their deaths in Queensland

I don't have access to any sites with Australian records but am trying to find the travel and death details of John Hansford who travelled to Australia (Brisbane I think) in the 1870's. I think I have found his death 29/9/1876 on the Queensland BDM site. He was born c1804.

Also the same for his wife Julia née Goillon who he married in Jersey in 1828. I know I've got her death date from the above site (the maiden name helped a lot) 12/8/1876 but wouldn't mind a bit more - obituary? burial?

A large part of their family seem to have arrived 1/1/1875 on the Gauntlet but I'm not seeing them.

Any help would be much appreciated
