I have been researching James Harry WOOD, born 26.Sept.1872 in Poplar London to Thomas WOOD & Julia MEGIT. I noticed on the 1911 census records that James occupation "Stoker" was living at 12 West Street Gillingham Kent with his wife of 16 years Rose & son James born in Newcastle upon Tyne abt 1897. Going back to 1901 James is on board the "Terpsichore" docked in Chatham and Rose & James are living at 50 Russell Street Sheerness listed as Frances R and Daughter, to Thomas & Rosina Holmes. Frances Rose WOOD dies in 1929 and probate says James gets her money. Now I have found a marriage between James Harry WOOD & Annie WILSON in May 1893 in Medway Kent and a marriage between James Harry WOOD & Frances R NAPIER in the 4th.Qtr.1917 so I then really started digging and found a birth for James NAPIER in Tynemouth 1896 and a marriage between Frances Rose CHILDS & James NAPIER in Sheppey Kent 1892. Sorry this is so long winded but I think that Frances Rose Wood/Napier/Childs is one person and maybe started life as Frances Rose WOODING born to William & Rosina Wooding in Chatham Kent in 1875, William WOODING died in 1885 and Rosina married Thomas HOLMES IN 1888 but she also uses the surname "CHILDS" |

Thank you ***alviegal*** that rules out that theory, just seemed strange that Frances Rose & James Harry left getting married for so long. |

Am wondering - as Rosina was born on St Helena Island whether her father was either a serving soldier there or worked for the East India Company - stacks of info on google about St Helena. Perhaps she met her first husband William Wooding there, also maybe in the services, but can't find a service record to prove this). They may have married there and then returned to UK at end of his time there with a subsequent discharge from service, with him ending up as a Labourer?? |

Stuart Thank you thats worth looking into, sometimes you end up going round and round in circles looking at the same records and you cannot make sense of them so a fresh pair of eyes and new directions are a great help. Thanks |

So either Rosina fibbed when marrying Thomas or she wasn't actually married to William Wooding. |
