So either Rosina fibbed when marrying Thomas or she wasn't actually married to William Wooding.

But all things told your assumption that all the Frances Roses are th same person seems sound to me

Stuart Thank you thats worth looking into, sometimes you end up going round and round in circles looking at the same records and you cannot make sense of them so a fresh pair of eyes and new directions are a great help. Thanks

Am wondering - as Rosina was born on St Helena Island whether her father was either a serving soldier there or worked for the East India Company - stacks of info on google about St Helena. Perhaps she met her first husband William Wooding there, also maybe in the services, but can't find a service record to prove this). They may have married there and then returned to UK at end of his time there with a subsequent discharge from service, with him ending up as a Labourer??

Thank you ***alviegal*** that rules out that theory, just seemed strange that Frances Rose & James Harry left getting married for so long.
Back too waiting for the certificates to arrive, I have also ordered a copy of Frances Rose Wood's "Will to see if I can gain any info from that.

Frances Rose Wood died 1929,
Frances Rose Napier married James Harry Wood 1917 but had been living as Mrs Wood since 1901 census,
Frances Rose Childs married James Napier 1892

Frances Rose Wooding born Chatham 1875 her father William Wooding died 1885 and her mother Rosina married Thomas Holmes in 1888 using the surname Childs, I would like to find out where the surname "Childs" came from and if I am correct in thinking that all these Frances Rose are the same person.

gardenpest29 Report 13 Aug 2013 14:52

I have been researching James Harry WOOD, born 26.Sept.1872 in Poplar London to Thomas WOOD & Julia MEGIT. I noticed on the 1911 census records that James occupation "Stoker" was living at 12 West Street Gillingham Kent with his wife of 16 years Rose & son James born in Newcastle upon Tyne abt 1897. Going back to 1901 James is on board the "Terpsichore" docked in Chatham and Rose & James are living at 50 Russell Street Sheerness listed as Frances R and Daughter, to Thomas & Rosina Holmes. Frances Rose WOOD dies in 1929 and probate says James gets her money. Now I have found a marriage between James Harry WOOD & Annie WILSON in May 1893 in Medway Kent and a marriage between James Harry WOOD & Frances R NAPIER in the 4th.Qtr.1917 so I then really started digging and found a birth for James NAPIER in Tynemouth 1896 and a marriage between Frances Rose CHILDS & James NAPIER in Sheppey Kent 1892. Sorry this is so long winded but I think that Frances Rose Wood/Napier/Childs is one person and maybe started life as Frances Rose WOODING born to William & Rosina Wooding in Chatham Kent in 1875, William WOODING died in 1885 and Rosina married Thomas HOLMES IN 1888 but she also uses the surname "CHILDS"
What I need is a fresh pair of eyes to see if this all makes sense and where the surname "CHILDS" might come from.
Thank you. :-S
