I am looking for information on Fanny Ellis probably born in Essex sometime between 1855 - 1860. She married John Dorrington in 1878 in West Ham Essex. There is a possibility on a 1861 census, however she is listed as a grand daughter so there is little indication of who her parents may be. Any clues would be appreciated. |

Thank you for your help. I do believe I will need to order a copy of the marriage certificate to clarify details. It looks as though it may be an illegitimate birth. Unfortunately there are 2 deaths in Essex that are in the same time frame and I can't distinguish which may be the correct one. I was hopeful that someone on Genes may have been working on similar family lines. As I am from Australia I am not that familiar with the English system for ordering records but I guess I am about to find out! |

Thank you for all your help. Just for my information, does an English marriage certificate contain the mother's details as well as the father's or would an illegitimate birth just have unknown? |

Mother's names are not recorded on English marriage certs, which is why I suggested that the birth cert would be of more use to you |
