Find Ancestors

I have a Charlotte Ethel Upfield born 1885. (my Canadian Grandmother)
I found a Charlotte Upfield on a passenger list aged 9 coming from Liverpool in 1894 on the Ship: 'Laurentian' Arrival Port: Halifax Ont Canada.
She was with a group of children from a Dr Barnardo home.
Is this my Charlotte or can anyone find a birth in Canada?
On her Marriage cert 27/11/1912 she says her Fathers name is James Upfield.

I found a Lottie Upfield working as a servant on the Canadian 1901 but it doesn't state birth place.

I can't see the birth of a Charlotte Upfield anywhere on FreeBMD, at any time

Nor is there any sign of her in the 1891 UK census, on Ancestry.

According to the marriage she was born in Sussex:

Wild speculation:
As there's no sign of Charlotte with any surname anything like Upfield born in Sussex (except for a Charlotte Field in Brighton in 1887) - or anywhere else - I wonder if she was illegitimate; birth registered under mother's name; handed over to Barnardo's under father's name?

There's no sign of a fruit-gatherer James Upfield/Apfield in Sussex (or anywhere else, for that matter) in 1881-91, but there is this possibility:

Even if he is her father, it still doesn't help to find her birth, I know! She wasn't born in Petworth reg district 1884-9 - there's a Charlotte Stevens in 1885, but she's safely with her parents in 1891.

I found this one who was a farm labourer but as you can see, there is no sign of Charlotte.
It would appear that this man ( James Upfield) married Emily in Guildford 1887 which is after an 1885 birth?

An older man named James Apfield is also found in Surrey.
He was a policeman and there is no Charlotte ( or derivitaves) in his household either

I'm so sorry everyone I had quite forgot that I already had a thread on the go about Charlotte Ethel.
It's because I was excited the other day as I had been sent the Photo. I have never seen it or others before.
I printed it off and keep looking at it lol

Thankyou all for having a look for her and trying to help me.

I now think that she's the one from Dr Barnardo homes. A 'home child'?
Maybe they changed her name and or age? As they did.....She has her DOB as Christmas day! 1885...funny that cos my Father died on a Christmas day.
I now find myself wondering did she join the boat in Liverpool or maybe Ireland?
I suppose we'll never find out now Ho hum...

What years were the Brothers born?

My Father Albert Gerald Stevens was born 13/05/1913 Hamilton Ont
He had 3 brothers, I think....
Gord Stevens (Gordon?)(George?) He told my English Mother he had 2 Brothers.

James Stanley Stevens died March 2013. Younger brother of Albert Gerald.

Parents were Charlotte Ethel Upfield and Millage Gerald Stevens.

Was it 2 or 3 Brothers?

Lottie's pob=England on 1901 - that's exactly the level of detail I'ld expect.

Ancestry has Ontario, Canada Births, 1869-1913
Ontario has a 97 y closure on births, so although 1915 has been released, the last couple of years aren't indexed yet, nor are the images online so far as I'm aware.

Canada has a 92 y closure on censuses, so 1921 was released a couple of months back, but it's not indexed yet, nor are the images online yet - I don't know if they're even digitized yet.
I think this one will come late in 2013 - 1911 had month & year of birth - I've not seen what info's on the 1921.

Re James Upfield from Petworth Sussex b1841.
He was obviously in the Army between the 1861 and 1881 so how can I find out about his Army service?
I presume he joined up but i'm not sure if he would have been fighting anywhere....or was he?
Were we at war during that time? India??
