Hello Everyone
Today I received the copy of Thomas and Louisa's marriage certificate.
They married in St Giles on 7/061875.
I also have Henry Thomas's birth certificate for 11/03/1866.Mother was the above Louisa Bales.
The birth certificate says Thomas (c1830) was a pensioner of the 19th Hussars. This could be why I can't find him in 1851 and 1861.Please does any one have an idea where I could research his army career.
Regards
Wendy

1841 St James Clerkenwell Middlesex. D21
Jane Margrath 45 Independent born Ireland? Says Magrath on actual view.
James 15
John 13
Thomas 9

This could be the same family as on 1871 census it states Thomas born Clerkenwell.

Thank you Potty
Her mother was Louisa ,not sure why she was Elizabeth on the baptism record. Thomas had two children by his first wife .That would be Eliza and Henry,he married Louisa Smith 3/11/1846.

Is her maiden name Bales?

Or are you unsure of this to?

Wendy Report 1 Aug 2013 14:41

Hi
I've searched under every misspelling of McGrath known to man.

After being reminded that perhaps the two elder children were Louisa's I have again looked for an earlier marriage for her.No Luck.I also cannot find her in 1871 ???????.I had thought that this was because she had married but as I have said I can't find a record for it.

As the name is spelt differently on the marriage index, have you searched under Magrath ?

Marriage of Louisa Sarah and Thomas 1875 St Giles.London June Qtr 1B 831.
Thomas's name was spelt Magrath.

Potty

Potty Report 1 Aug 2013 14:19

The two older children could have been Louisa's and have taken Thomas name.

Can you post more details of the marriage, as I can't find it on freebmd.

Wendy Report 1 Aug 2013 14:19

Hi
He definately died in 1888.Louisa is a widow in 1891/1901/1911.

I have today sent for his marriage certificate, which can only give me his father's name. I was hoping to find him on the census. This may have told me a name for a previous wife and what he was doing in the 46 years before he married Louisa.
