I'm trying to find a Divorce record for a marriage undertaken in 1916. I would be most grateful for information on where to find such a record.

Many thanks

Are you certain that the couple actually divorced? In those days divorce was largely for those who were well off as it was difficult and expensive to get a divorce and most couples would just separate and go on to live with another partner or to marry again bigamously.

Thank you, Kath. You are quite right about the relative rarity of divorces in the early 1900s. I know that my couple divorced. My problem was to establish exactly when the event occurred. I have now discovered the date via the National Archives.

Many thanks for your interest and help.

Kind regards
Victor
