Hello all, This is my 4 x g-grandfather John Green in 1841 with his family.
Piece: HO107/1142/2 Place: Birmingham -Warwickshire Enumeration District: 4 Civil Parish: B'ham (St Martin) Ecclesiastical Parish: - Folio: 28 Page: 10 Address: Coventry St
Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks GREEN John M 40 Milkman Warwickshire GREEN Mary F 40 Warwickshire GREEN Richard M 14 Bellows Maker Appren Warwickshire GREEN Ann F 9 Warwickshire
I am descended from Richard, who in 1871 gives his place of birth as Henley in Arden. In 1851 Richard is married to Mary (Yates) and living in Birmingham St. Martin with baby daughter Elizabeth. I think that I have his parents John and Mary with his sister Ann, also living in B'ham Saint Martin. I'd be grateful if someone could post the details for the two families, I am particularly keen to find their places of birth. With names like John and Mary Green it is proving impossible otherwise to trace them any further. Thanks very much
Beverley

Thanks Glitterbaby Yes, that's the one I had for Richard. Tanworth-in-Arden is very close to Henley.
|
Thanks also Stuart and alviegal. With John being a milkman in 1851 it's definitely the same chap. The youngest child Mary would I guess be Ann's illegitimate daughter. Hopefully I can get back a bit further now, thank you again everyone

Original shows name written as Mary Jane with no ditto under Green, so guess it's been transcribed with the thought that Jane was the Surname!

Just found this in 1861 Birmingham St. Thomas
51,13 Prices Place,1,John Green,Head,M,64,,Labourer,Tamworth Warwickshire,, ,,,Mary Green,Wife,M,,62,,Tamworth Warwickshire,, ,,,Robert Spencer,Lodger,M,53,,Shoeing Smith,Birmingham Warwickshire,, ,,,Mary Spencer,Wife,M,,53,,Tamworth Warwickshire,, ,,,Mary Jane Green,Grndau,,,10,,Birmingham Warwickshire,,
Now I'm wondering about TaMworth and TaNworth (two totally different places but easily confused!)

Thanks alviegal.
I am pretty sure that this is Richard's baptism:
Name: Richard Green Gender: Male Christening Date: 30 Jul 1826 Christening Place: Tanworth Parish, Warwick, England Birth Date: Birthplace: Death Date: Name Note: Race: Father's Name: John Green Father's Birthplace: Father's Age: Mother's Name: Mary
which would tie in with his saying Henley in Arden in the later census. I think his wife was from Stourport, not Stockport.
As far as I know, TaMworth has never been in Worcestershire, though it was at one time in Staffordshire. TaNworth has always been in Warwickshire! This is very confusing and I am sure that the census taker didn't have a clue either.
