Find Ancestors

Joseph was convicted at Bury St .Edmunds and transported for seven years to Tasmania. Arrived in convict ship Chapman 27-7-1824. He received his certificate of freedom 21-7-1830. A Joseph Ward married Mary Ketley 22-9-1834 at New Town Tasmania. However details are sparse and I can't be sure its the Joseph from Layham can anyone help please. Regards Jeff Ward.

IF you could find a death for a Joseph Ward ................ or an obituary notice ......... it should mention his parents' names as well as his wife and any children.

thanks for the info I had picked up on the births of William and Charlotte also Frances, Joseph, Maria and George Problem is there was more than one Joseph Ward in Tasmania at that time, and I can't identify mine. Also reference to birth dates of 1818 and 1820 not understood

but only this one was a possible .......... yet she was only sentenced to 3 months imprisonment NOT transportation

My gut feeling is that the Joseph Ward who married Mary (Ann) Ketley is NOT your Joseph .........

................... but I can't find too much evidence to support my feeling!

Hello everyone thanks for all your help ,I'm afraid I share Sylviain's gut feeling. My instinct is that the Joseph that married Mary Ketley is not my Joseph, as much as I would like it to be. I'll keep ferreting around, perhaps something will turn up in an obituary. Only problem is in those days people were covering their tracks and did'nt like to admit to convict ancestors !! Would it be possible for you to get Joseph and Mary Ketley's marriage certificate OR Joseph's death certificate??

..................... I understand that both those certificates in Australia should have the mother and father named.
