James Milne Robertson born July 1921 Dyke, Morayshire.. I am trying to trace his family, mother was ? Robertson and father ? Milne. No first names, obviously illegitimate and brought up by his grandparents, who I am assuming was the mothers parents.. He was brought up at Whitemires Cottages Dyke Moray, and worked at Darnaway Castle Dyke at the age of 14 as a "gardener/butler" |

Thanks Aileen, I think I have worked out that James Milne Robertsons mother is Helen Robertson, daughter of William and Mary Ann Mcrae who was born born c1900 Dyke Morayshire, who brought James up, lord knows where Helen went to. James was born out of wedlock and Milne is his fathers surnname, do you think it will say who his father was on the certificate or will it say illegitimate, I'm just wondering where the law stood about being listed as illegitimate in 1921.. |

As has already been stated, you need Scotlands People.........for which credits can be purchased. £7.00 for 30. You can look on there for births, and also see the 1911 census |

Not sure what you mean Reggie, Mary Ann Mcrae was William Robersons wife, and the mother of Helen, Isabella and Peter Robertson! Helen had a child born out of wedlock in 1921 Dyke.. Was trying to find out the fathers forename, he was ? Milne.. :-S |

Your post read (to me) as though William and Mary were called McRae |

The 1911 census will tell you how many children William and Mary had had by then. It is only viewable on scotlandspeople. |
