I C&P'd what you posted...................

But, as you will have realised, I did manage to work out what you meant..........

Potty Report 20 Jun 2013 12:55

The 1911 census will tell you how many children William and Mary had had by then. It is only viewable on scotlandspeople.

No!! William Robertson and Mary Ann Mcrae....

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 20 Jun 2013 09:15

Your post read (to me) as though William and Mary were called McRae

Also, William and Mary Ann Mcrae had several children but I can only see 3 listed, Peter 1898, Isabella 1900 and Helen 1901.. Can anyone see anymore..

ErikaH Report 20 Jun 2013 09:12

Treemadnancy Report 20 Jun 2013 09:07

Not sure what you mean Reggie, Mary Ann Mcrae was William Robersons wife, and the mother of Helen, Isabella and Peter Robertson! Helen had a child born out of wedlock in 1921 Dyke.. Was trying to find out the fathers forename, he was ? Milne.. :-S

ErikaH Report 20 Jun 2013 08:44

Your reference to Mcrae is confusing........................

As has already been stated, you need Scotlands People.........for which credits can be purchased. £7.00 for 30. You can look on there for births, and also see the 1911 census

No-one can possibly second-guess the info on the birth cert................the only way to see it is to purchase it

Thanks Aileen, I think I have worked out that James Milne Robertsons mother is Helen Robertson, daughter of William and Mary Ann Mcrae who was born born c1900 Dyke Morayshire, who brought James up, lord knows where Helen went to. James was born out of wedlock and Milne is his fathers surnname, do you think it will say who his father was on the certificate or will it say illegitimate, I'm just wondering where the law stood about being listed as illegitimate in 1921..

Also, William and Mary Ann Mcrae had several children but I can only see 3 listed, Peter 1898, Isabella 1900 and Helen 1901.. Can anyone see anymore..

From ScotlandsPeople

1921 ROBERTSON JAMES MILNE M DYKE /MORAY 133/00 0013

Unfortunately the certificate cannot be viewed on-line as it is after 1913....100 years law means that it will be 2021 before this is on-line. You can order it through ScotlandsPeople .....I think they cost £11.....if you live in Scotland you may be able to get it from the local Registrar or book a session with them to view this and other records.....again they charge a fee...mine is £15 per hour. you can also visit the ScotlandsPeople centre in Edinburgh

You should be able to find his mum s details if you have his actual birth cert.

You can't work back without it

It will be on Scotlands People

Do you have his birth cert? If not, you need it..................

Who were the grandparents who raised him?

Treemadnancy Report 19 Jun 2013 09:23

James Milne Robertson born July 1921 Dyke, Morayshire.. I am trying to trace his family, mother was ? Robertson and father ? Milne. No first names, obviously illegitimate and brought up by his grandparents, who I am assuming was the mothers parents.. He was brought up at Whitemires Cottages Dyke Moray, and worked at Darnaway Castle Dyke at the age of 14 as a "gardener/butler"

This is all I have....can anyone help of give me some ideas...
