Unfortunately I have no knowledge at all of the parentage of Joseph apart from his marriage cert which lists his father as James a deceased clerk. |

Hi I am trying to find anything about Joseph Breckon born Poplar 1822, my gt gt grandfather, prior to his marriage. He married Margaret Heckler from East Barnby, Whitby, North Yorkshire in 1849 and they had two children Alice and Charles Joseph. All though there were a number of Breckons lived in the Whitby area at the time I cannot find a connection and Joseph is listed on successive census returns as coming from Poplar Middlesex. He died in Whitby in 1890. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. |

I think if a daughter returned home and resumed the family name then she may well have never been married at all. |

as the death & probate I gave you was for the ONLY Joseph Breckon who died in 1890 I think it is probable that your cousin has given you the wrong info. |

Thank you Ann Cardiff, the Joseph Breckon in the Union Workhouse is almost certainly him as he was known as Joseph. |

Thank you Dea, I had seen that 1841 census and did wonder about it plus then as now there are a lot of Breckons in the Whitby/North Yorkshire moor areas. The probate reference is not him as his wife Margaret died in 1865 coinciding with the birth of their youngest son. |

The surname seems to be located almost exclusively in Yorkshire....................... |
