Hi all, hope someone can help.
I'm doing a tree for a friend and I’m trying to track down Theophilis George born abt 1863 in Stafford.
I’ve got him in the 1911 census married to Edith Unknown along with 5 children.
In 1901 still married to Edith with the one child (Florence)

I can’t find any other trace of him before that –I’ve tried various spellings but he’s disappeared (no trace of his marriage either) any ideas please?

No sign of him on FMP pre-1901

Your friend may have to resort to buying the marriage cert, to see if he knew his father

Looks like it -at least we can do that now we have the wife.
Thanks everyone for trying.

I had a look at the image of that 1871 census and I'd say the name for the lad born in 1859 is Thomas W.

This is that family in 1861:

GEORGE, John Head Married M 27 1834 Coal Miner Salop
GEORGE, Jane Wife Married F 26 1835 Wolverhampton, Staffordshire
GEORGE, Mary ... Daughter F 4 1857 Scholar Wednesfield, Staffordshire
GEORGE, Thomas H Son M 2 1859 Wednesfield, Staffordshire
GEORGE, Edward Brother Unmarried M 25 1836 Coal Miner Salop
INFANT Son M 0 (12H) 1861 Wednesfield, Staffordshire

Piece: 2003 Folio: 80 Page: 3
Registration District: Wolverhampton
Civil Parish: Wednesfield

Address: 17, New Cross, Wednesfield County: Staffordshire

Although it's been transcribed as Thomas H here, it's definitely a "W" on the image.

Yes, looks like it. I can't find a definite death for Theophilus, there's a chap of the same name died 1944, but I've found his birth in 1866 in Solihull and tracked him through census so a different person.

I'm wondering if Theophilus was an assumed name.
