Help. I am trying to find the above in the 1871 census to confirm who his children were. I have found him in the 1861 and 1881 census but not 1871.The 1851 and 1861 census shows he was born in Tewkesbury but the 1881 census shows he was born at sea. He was married to Matilda who came from Tipton and they went to live in Bilston. He had a son called Andrew (my great grandfather) who was born about 1865.I think his father was also called Andrew and mother was Ann but i need to confirm that i am following the right track. If you can help me it would be much appreciated.Thanks. Karen |

Thank you for your help Kath. It gets so confusing when there are lots of Johns and Andrews in the same family. I initially started looking at my family tree when an aunt on my dads side found some details of relatives on my moms side which is the side i am following. She said John was married to a Matilda Gittins.Once again thank you for your help. Karen |

Is it possible that he said he was born at sea because on the 1841 census for his parents (if they were indeed Andrew and Ann) that his father was a Waterman and perhaps John was born on the boat? |

I have only got a copy of half of the page for the 1841 census, why i don,t know.It just gives age details of Andrew(not very clear),Ann(25),John(8)presumably the one i am looking for,Joseph(6),Catherine(4),Samuel(2).The census was taken in the borough of Tewkesbury.Catherine and Samuel are also not very clearly written. |

On the 1841 census Andrew's age is given as 30 and Ann's as 25 but the ages of adults was rounded down to the nearest 5 years in the 1841 census so Andrew could have been between 30 and 34 and Ann could have been between 25 and 29. |
