Hi Cliff

Just go to the main 'Find ancestors board' and to the right of 'All threads on "Find Ancestors" board' is a button called 'Add Topic'

Click on that, and cut and paste the info on your father that you gave here.

I'm off to work now but someone will come along and help.

Whatever you do, DON'T mark the new thread as answered - or no one else will look at it, as they'll think it's finished.

EDIT: if you remember anything else, eg did your father have brothers or sisters, and if so, do you know their names and if they were older or younger? Anything to help identify the family. Add it to your opening post on the new thread if so.

Hi K
I am getting very frustrated trying to start the ancestry of my father Alfred Ernest Holloway. Shamefully I do not know his mothers first name, and I believe she remarried changing her surname from Holloway to Docherty (spelling ??)
My dad died 14 March 1965 at the age of 57. My mother Alice May Holloway (nee Page) born 9 Aug 1908 and died 7 Aug 1996.
I believe my Dad was born in Acton, West London W3, Brentford district ?
I need to find his mothers names at birth. Can't seem to turn anything up?
Cliff
By the way, as this is a new thread how do I start one please.

Cliff,

If it's the same family, just add to this thread to bring it to the top of the board. (and remove the 'answered' marking.)

If a different family, then start a new thread on the' Finding Ancestors' board.

If you put youreinquries on the boards, you should get more response, and we can 'check' each other's research, bounce ideas off each other etc. Different folk have access to different sites/sources, so it pays to cast your net wide by using the boards.

I'd certainly be happy to help with any future threads of yours I spot on here.

BTW, I think you accidently shot yourself in the foot by marking this particular thread as 'answered', so other helpers would have assumed you'd learnt all you needed to know.

No danger of outwearing your welcome on the boards, there are plenty of us who relish the chance to get our teeth into a fresh inquiry or two ;-)

Just remember not to mark your threads as answered until you're satisfied we can help you no further.

RE the info from your family, it seems to be mainly a question of confusion over the names of the various James, James Henry, James Albert and James Thomas.

Based on all your research, the information I have received from family members has to be questioned.
Thanks for all the good work.
Thus far I only have two contacts Patchem and Kucinta.
I don't wish to wear out my welcome, but will I be able to contact either of you again with inquiries for other ancestors in my family tree ?

Is this the death of your grandfather?

Name: James A Page
Birth Date: abt 1879
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1955
Age at Death: 76
Registration District: Ipswich
Inferred County: Suffolk
Volume: 4b

Not sure about the location, but it fits with the info you posted about 'James Henry', and also the birth GRO ref for James Albert I cited in my first post.

Many thanks. You have been a great help and prevented further frustration for me trying to find their B,M,D records.

Obviously I have received some confusing info from family members.

Looks like my grandfather was James Albert Page and his father was James Thomas Page.
I will check this out with records

My appreciation,
Cliff

Um, Clifford, if you look at the records I posted above, it's James ALBERT Page who married Mary Ann Collins (or possibly Mary Ann Monk) in 1903, and was living at 53 Averill Road in census 1911 that I posted above., working as a stoker in a sugar factory...

They also have a son called James H Page born c1910 Fulham, according to the 1911 census.

I'm no relation, just trying to help you out as patchem was doing also.

Sorry for the confusion, but this is my first attempt to find ancestors.

Based on family info. my grandfather - James Henry Page was born 11.10.1879
He was married to Mary Anne Collins and lived at 53 Averill Street, Fulham.
His father James Albert? Page lived in Jupp Road, Stratford, East London and was reported to work in a sugar factory.??

Do we have related ancestors?
Many thanks,
Cliff
