I am trying to find the parents of Thomas Ongley born about 1847 in the Tonbridge Kent ares, he married Charlotte Rogers b 1861 in 1878 in Gillingham, on the marraige certificate his father is named as Richard Payne, he is also listed as a witness. I cannot find a link between the 2 men, can any one help me please ?

He and Alfred are both Hawkers, but it doesn't say of what and it doesn't explain the Richard Payne noted as father on MC - could that have been a mistake??
