Again, thanks to all who have replied so far. I think I can safely rule out the Ann Spottiswood who married John Farrer and the Ann / Jane Spottswood who married Thomas Wannop.

Stuart, I agree that the Spotswoods of Walton (Hill House, Low and Hill Head, Walton as per the 1941 and 1951 censuses) look promising. The birth year given for that Ann (daughter of James and Elizabeth) – 1937 – matches the birth year of the 1871 census which shows Ann & Richard married and living in Liverpool with three sons (the first born in 1867).

I THINK all the Liverpool censuses I have for Ann Blower show the same woman:
1871 b. 1837 Longtown, Cumberland
1881 b. 1842 Scotland
1891 b. 1836 Scotland

The possible death in 1895 would have her born in 1833… The dates are all over the place (!) but I understand this was not unusual, and I have read that English border towns were often reported as being in Scotland?

Any suggestions for how best to move forward greatly appreciated.
