Hi - My great grandad died in 1917- How do I know if his medals were claimed- I only just found out you had to 'claim' them- that they weren't automatically sent- only his wife was illiterate and ill when he died so wondrered if the family ever had them- she died a couple of years later nad the children were 'adopted' by other families and split up. I would like to get his service record- but cannot find anything about it so far (I am aware it may be burned) His name was Charles Parkhouse - from Exeter Devon. (and i know all the Burial details from CWGC thank you) He was with the Duke of Cornwall LI . I downloaded a medal card- from national archives online-but don't know how to tell if they were claimed or not? Help please anyone? |

ALL info I have found over the years relating to WW1 medals shows them to have been sent automatically to the serviceman, or, if he had died, to his NOK |
