Hi Mary,
Thank you for sorting me out with your most impressive gems of finds.

Based on the 1840 info I tried again with FreeBMD and asked it to look for wobblies :-

Marriages Dec 1840
Brookbank James Bradford
23 191

SMITH Sa___ Bradford
23 191

so it wasn't me that took the 's' out of Brooksbank or obliterated half of Sarah's name - lol

Witness to Jeremiah and Mary's wedding.
Hannah Maria Whalley 1852 married John William Feilding.
Parents of Hannah Maria were Matthew Whalley 1829 Denholme and Nanny nee Pickles born 1831 Denholme.

Nanny Pickles 1831 daughter of John Pickles 1787 and Hannah Brooksbank born 1789 Denholme. They were married 1807.
Hannah Brooksbank baptised 18/7/1789 by David Brooksbank born 1749 of Denholme she was baptised at St Michaels Haworth.

Now Mary Brooksbank's family?
David also baptised David Brooksbank at Haworth 3/3/1784 of Thornton/Denholme.(So David 1784 brother to hannah 1789)

David 1789 may have married 1807 in Bradford to Hannah Binns
There was a Hannah Brooksbank of Lodge Gate Denholme died 20/4/1825.
They baptised a David 20/4/1813. of Lodge Gate Denholme.
At the moment can't find Baptism for James circa 1819-1821.

1841 James is not with wife Sarah(she is with dad Isaac Smith)
daughter Menah Brooksbank 4 months (married Edward Foster 27/10/1860)Her dad down as James Brooksbank foundryman.

??1841 Horton Bradford D1 > 6
David Brooksbank 1786 beer seller
James 1821 a Delver
Edward 1821 Worsted Weaver.

The marriage of Sarah Smith and James brooksbank in 1840 is on Ancestry.co.uk as are the baptisms I have found.

Thank you Mary, this means that Mary's mother was James' sister, a Smith but I cannot find a marriage for her with James Brooksbank. The 1881 census gives Mary's place of birth as Denholme (after she was married so I know she is my Mary). I need to see if I can find James Smith's siblings. There does appear to be only one Mary 1851 in FreeBMD that could match so I will try and get the descendant to cough up (a friend of a friend who I don't know from Adam - Eve really)

Thanks Jonesey, I don't think this is getting much clearer but it seems that my Mary Brooksbank 1851, father James, did not have grandparents Isaac and Mary Smith in 1861 unless they were just child minders referred to as granparents?

So, this would be where Mary was staying before her wedding.
