Goodness me. Thanks all so much.It is definitely my Thomas and Agnes that emigrate to Australia. Had no idea. Thomas's occupation in 1911 census and marriage certificate is boot mender. So all ties in. Will carry on looking for Muriel and check out her marriage. Once again thanks a million.

There's a tree on Ancestry showing no children for Thomas & Agnes, but it could be wrong. You may need the birth cert to be sure she is their child.

Do you have his father's history? His death & probate in 1921 grants administration to Richard John Cope (taxi proprietor) and Thomas Bertram (bootmaker). Looks like Richard was from his first marriage, which I guess ended in divorce (petition in 1888), but both Joseph and his first wife re-married.

Simon

Simon Report 9 Mar 2013 14:16

Yes I have seen that on Ancestry. Marion, Thomas' Mum dies about 1918. I have been trying to find Thomas and his family on 1901 census but not with much success. In 1911 Thomas is living with his Uncle, my great grandfather, Michael Williams. But I cannot find him in 1901 census or his Mum or brothers. By this time his Mum is not with Joseph Cope. In 1911 census his Mum Marion is known as Marion Burley and living with Mr Burley, although they never marry. As I said cannot find them on 1901 census.

There is a birth for Muriel C Ford in Derby in 1926, and then this death to rule out the marriage:
Name: Muriel Cynthia Playter
Birth Date: 5 Sep 1926
Date of Registration: Feb 2004
Age at Death: 77
Registration district: South Warwickshire
Inferred County: Warwickshire
Register Number: 26C
District and Subdistrict: 773/3
Entry number: 151

Perhaps you should buy Muriel C Cope's birth certificate for exact date of birth and middle name? She may have stopped using Muriel and used the 'C'.

Flip Report 9 Mar 2013 14:50

I can't find any of the family in 1901 either, although Joseph Richard Cope is on the 1911 census

Joseph Richard Cope
Age in 1911: 64
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1847
Relation to Head: Head
Gender: Male
Birth Place: Wimpole
Civil parish: Islington
County/Island: London
Country: England
Street Address: 111 Church Road, Islington N
Marital Status: Married
Occupation: BOOK KEEPER
Registration district: Islington
Registration District Number: 10
Sub-registration district: Islington South East
ED, institution, or vessel: 5
Piece: 907
Household Members: Name Age
Joseph Richard Cope 64

The image states married 20 years, 7 children born of which 4 still alive. Still states married but he is living alone

Also, although his first wife filed for divorce it was dismissed so not sure if they ever actually divorced - although she re-married in 1895, so I presume it did go through.

Just received marriage certificate for miuriel. She does marry frank michael Forde who sadly dies January 1944. I then see a marriage for Muriel c fired to Noel b Richardson, also Newmarket at the end of 1944. Could thus also be her. Anyone help me out here. Cannot find a Noel b Richardson. Wondering if he was American. Any help would be great.
