James was married to an Alice with three children. Harriet Mary b1889, Florence b1892 and George b 1896. The family seems to move around and at one point called themselves Williams. James was born in Norfolk and was a chimney sweep. Alice has two surnames - Radford ad Morrey (Morray) and the children were all born in different places. Two in Wales and one in Birmingham. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places but I can find no trace of him. |

Looks like Mary Harriet in the 1911 was the other sister and married Moses Dakin: |

Calling themselves Williams in 1901. Do you have the children's birth certs? Is that where you got the MMNs from? |

So, the youngest child is the one with the different MMN. That suggests that the original Alice died and James remarried. The James Williams in the 1901 is a sweep - so that is at least 3 different jobs for James. Do you have any of the children's marriage certs? If so, what occupation is given for him on that? It would help to have all the info from all the certs. Is the birth cert for Harriet in the name of Mary Harriet or Harriet Mary? |

Sorry Dereen, only just seen your PMs? You have obviously found your way back to this thread - much better to post here than by sending PMs - that way everyone can see what has been found. |

On her birth certificate Mary Harriet is Mary Harriet although I think she was known a Harriet I have a copy of her marriage certificate to Moses Dakin. Father's name here is James Harrod, Chimney Sweep. |

Derren, the photo is my avatar - it appears on all my posts, so sorry, it is not of your family. (It is actually me as a very small baby, being held by my aunt.) |

Thank you Patchem. This seems totally possible. They did live in Oldham. |

Sorry, Dereen, I can't find anything on either James or Alice. They just seem to appear out of nowhere in 1901! |

Thank you Potty for the info. Sorry for my ignorance. The witnesses on Harriet,s marriage certificate were an Eli Price and Maria Hattersley. Harriet lived in Middleton and the marriage date was 18th April 1908. Marriage took place at Oldham Reg. Office. |
