Henry Haynes 1911 Census

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Roger Report 12 Nov 2011 03:28

Where is my Grandfather, Henry Haynes (HE HAS NO OTHER NAMES)
in the 1911 census. Born Highbury, Islington London in 1882/84 to William Haynes 1847 and Elizabeth Williams 1849. He had a Brother William 1874 and a Sister Emily 1880.
We know he married Arabella Walker c 1913 and described then as a Batchelor so he is not married in the 1911 census.
Thank you for any help but remember not married 1911 so none of those with wife or children and almost certainly in London and probably Islington, Holloway, Highbury. Thank you, Roger :-S

Hi Mary,
Thank you. I have that information.
It is the 1911 Census information that intrigues me.
My Grandfather was in mental homes for many years after the marriage.
There is some specific information the 1911 census would help me with.
Kind regards,
Roger

I can't see him in 1911 at all Roger

MaryMc

MaryMc Report 12 Nov 2011 04:20

If he was in institutions, they were often only recorded on the census by initial, which makes it rather more difficult!
But that would only apply to you if he was in an institution before the marriage.

You must have the marriage cert if you know he was a batchelor? did it give an occupation?

Roger,
The reason MaryMc posted the marriage details is "for reference" for the helpers.

of course, one assumes he told the truth on the marriage certificate

and that he was not committing bigamy :-)

Could he possibly have used the name Harry at times??

Henry and Harry are often used interchangeably.

Hi All,
Thank youfor your help.
The 1891 census with wife Sarah and all the wilkonson step children is the CORRECT record and the correct Henry as son.
The Myrtle Street address is the correct one.
As far as I am aware he was never known as Harry and I had followed that line several years ago incorrectly at first.
I have no reason to belive he was in any institution in 1911.
He was I believe from records rejected for the army in 1916 as medically unfit.
Kind regards,
Roger :-)

Hi Roger,

You say you followed the Harry Haynes line several years ago, but it turned out to be wrong. Can you remember where you found him? I can't find the Haynes family that Jax has posted for the 1901 census, anywhere in 1891 - except for the one posted, living with the Wilkinson family.

Harry Haynes in Blackstock Road in 1901, must surely be the same person as Henry Haynes in Blackstock Road in 1911.

Wood Green is part of Tottenham.

Flick Report 12 Nov 2011 12:04

The occupation in 1911 matches that on the Army record............that would seem to be fairly conclusive

The info posted for 1911 is all that is available..........the column recording more personal details is inaccessible

What was his declared occupation on his marriage cert?

patchem

patchem Report 12 Nov 2011 12:15

I do not think Roger has the marriage certificate so cannot comment on occupation or Father's name. Roger stated the marriage was c1913, whilst MaryMc found what looks like it in 1916. The army record in 1916 records his sister not any wife. I think Roger needs to buy the marriage certificate to help in the search for confirmation.

jax

jax Report 12 Nov 2011 14:00

If Roger does not have the marriage cert how does he know he was a batchelor when he married in 1913 or what his fathers name was?

I am not really sure what you are still looking for I gave you the 1911 but you seem to have dismissed that for some reason, had you mentioned the Army it would of helped

Hi All,
Thank you all. Sorry about the delay but we live in New Zealand so the time difference means we have been asleep.
I think you ARE correct about the 1911 Harry in Blackstock Road as that is all in the same area as well (I know the area well).
Death Certificate from 1955 shows he was "formerly a Greencrocer's assistant" So it all ties in.
I have also managed to get the marriage certificate from a relative yesterday evening and in 1916 he is shown as living at 12, Herrick Road with Arabella living at 43, Avenell Avenue which is what is shown on the Army Record (although spelt wrongly).
Thanks a million for all thoughts and suggestions it helps to clarify the mind and thoughts.
Now getting in touch with the London Records Office re the records of The Colney Hatch Lunatic Assylum and Frien Barnet Maental Hospital.
Roger :-)

An Update;
Brilliant News. After many many years of trying to get Grandad's medical records (He was in a mental institution from 1928 until his death) I obtained them and they included a photograph of him. I had never before seen him or a photograph.
I had been told many many times you will not get any records but I would not be put off and pursued the medical records.
Moral of this story is sheer persistence often pays off. Told medical records are destroyed after 7 years well these were found by the authorities some 60 years after his death. :-)
