My name is Charles Rose, youngest son of Lydia (nee Farnall) and George Rose, and I was born in 1949. I have two elder sisters, one born in 1935 and one in 1946. We found out that Lydia was born in London - George Farnall and Amy Lowe were her parents, and was in Paddington workhouse She had a younger brother in the workhouse - Charles, who we believe died at around 18 months, and we don't know what happened to Amy, but can't find her later than around 1911. Lydia was dropped off by her father at a house in Pirbright, Surrey, owned by Mr & Mrs Tarrant (possibly for fostering?) just before the First World War. She never talked about her early childhood, and when her father returned to get her when she was 17 she refused to go with him. She stayed with the Tarrants until their deaths. She had an older brother called George Farnall, but had no contact with him after she moved to Pirbright.. |
