Any idea what the J stands for and when/where they died?

Hi All looking for some help in trying to find my nephews ancestors,
I am stuck at
William J Biggar who married Mary E Griffith in sept 1929
there Children Robert and William were born december 1930
Robert is my nephews granfather and lives in Manchester and is 80 this year

Can anyone find any other info that may help me go back further
