As for Janet and Jessie, my hubbie's granny was Janet but was always known as Jenny.

Also from http://www.whatsinaname.net

In Scotland Jessie is the more usual pet name or synonym for Janet, but several correspondents [AB, JMcF, and others] have found cases in Scotland of a person known as Jennie having been baptised as Janet.

Another correspondent [JMacG], researching in Scotland, sent us a note concerning "... a legal document circa 1780 concerning a Janet, who undersigned Jennie".

Sorry must go out for a while. Will come back later.

Hello,
I wonder if I could ask for help again with these two ancestors.

I am still looking for Charles Knuckey and Jenny ( Janet ) .
Can't seem to find either of them on any passenger lists going to Canada or anywhere else for that matter.

I don't have full access to Ancestry ca so if some kind person who has could have a look for them I would be most grateful.

I may have another thread on them but I cannot seem to find it sorry.

Thanks again

rootgatherer Report 6 May 2009 16:31

Hello again Jean.

I'm thinking, if that's them in America (and I think it is pretty hopeful), do you think that they actually got married? Janet Moore would probably still have been married to Allan until his death. Did his death certificate say "married to" or "formerly married to"? It could be that they just said they were married and that the marriage had taken place over here. (My granduncle did this in Australia because he was still married to the mother of his children who he had deserted here and wasn't free to marry.)

The other thing is that the poor relief application was made in 1911 so Charles and Janet were obviously living as husband and wife then.

So that 1911 Canadian census looks hopeful.

Good luck.
