Hi Evelyn. Hope you are OK because it´s been very quiet on the thread for a couple of weeks, although I know that several people are beavering away behind the scenes. Marion

ScotlandsPeople now has wills up to 1925. Might be worth searching them!
|
Hi everyone. Haven't heard from Evelyn for a while so I hope she is okay.........sending love to her.... <3
About 18 months ago, I sent a message to person on FB who had the surname Goddard-Fenwick, in the hope that they were related to Evelyn's Godmother and could help.
Just this week they have replied with apologies and asking how they can help. I have filled them in (very briefly) with the details of our search for DLM and hope that they get back to me soon. If no-one from the family can recall anything about Diane, then that avenue may be closed for a while.
Meanwhile.........we keep on beavering away...
:-D :-D :-D

Well done Cynthia. Hope springs eternal. Like you I hope Evelyn is OK as she has had quite a difficult year.
|
Here we go my friends......something for you to look at and, perhaps, work on.
It appears that the 107 year old lady mentioned by Evelyn's mother all those those years ago could have been:
May 1945 - Mrs Isabella MacLeod aged 107 and 6 months. Of 13 Vatisker. Born in North Tolsta in the year of Queen Victoria's accession.
What has been looked at so far:
l) The newspaper report contains no personal information sadly.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
2) From my contact at the Stornoway Historical Society:
Hi Cynthia,
I have some information on Isabella Macleod's family taken from a Croft History for North Tolsta.
Father: William Macdonald (1811-97) son of Murdo Macdonald, 29 Back, Isle of Lewis Mother: Margaret Maclennan (1816-95) daughter of John Maclennan, 26 Vatisker, Back, Isle of Lewis
They were cottars (illegal tenants on another croft) at North Tolsta but went to 1 Tolsta in 1851
Issue: -
1. Catherine, 1837-74 m. John Campbell, 54 Tolsta. They had one daughter, Ann. John remarried after her death. 2. Isabella 1838-1945 m. Angus Macleod, 13a Vatisker, Back, Isle of Lewis 3. Ann 1841, died young. 4. Allan 1848-1900 m. Kirsty Maclean, 4 Portnaguran, Point, Isle of Lewis, moved to 67a Tolsta 5. Ann 1851, died young 6. John 1854 - m. Mary Maclennan, 60 Tolsta. John inherited the family croft at 1 Tolsta 7. Margaret 1857- m. Angus Maciver, 11 Tolsta. They were cottars at 1 Tolsta 8. Murdo 1859 - m. Ann Murray, 61 Tolsta
I have a feeling that 'Aunt Kate' must have been one of Isabella's daughters or nieces. Catherine was a common name in the family it appears. Sadly there is no croft history for Vatisker but I will enquire further.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
3) Below are some of the census which Viv has looked at and she is particularly interested in the daughter Catherine born c1879. She has done some research but has got caught up with something else and could do with some help please.

Our Old Baggage Cynthia has forgotten or left out one piece of info that I am also interested in but have got no where with so far on this line of enquiry..
Catherine Macleod C1879 daughter of Isabella and Angus is said to have married a possible Macleod and had one daughter at least.. Catherine Mary???? Year Born???? But we DO know now that they lived on ........
INDIA STREET Stornoway...
Off to look for the email that Baggage received.
At last I found it among all the rub....Errrrrr,nice emails that she sends me :-D
Or maybe she didnt wanna give you too much info to work with in case it confuses you like it does her.. :-S
Dear Cynthia From the information we have in the Tolsta Historical records, Catherine, Isabella's daughter was married. She had at least one daughter Catherine Mary and the family lived on India Street Stornoway. I think their surname was also Macleod and were known in Lewis as Clann a'Phrois.
Best wishes with your research. Donald Murray

Linda Thank you for the search...
Trouble is that Isabella Macleod who married Angus Macleod was a MacDonald before marriage..
I think its in Cynthias post?
But in my searching I have also noted that the Montgomery family are somehow related to the Macleods of this lot... Been working on it and then like you ran out of credits...For now..
Thank you all for the help you give Evelyn......Im saying it for her as she seems to still be AWOL.....
I have emailed Evelyn and sent PMs but she remains schtumm at the moment.. Will be forced to phone her soon if she dont surface...Yep thats a promise not a threat Evelyn so BEWARE .....:P
Do hope she is still with us at times but you know what old age is like....: :-(
|
Sorry. Sorry. Sorry...............yep, I did miss that bit out....which was fairly crucial really.
BUT, in my humble defence, the Old Bat (FBG) suggested adding the above whilst I was waiting for the family to arrive for my OH's birthday tea. Got a bit confused after that!
I will try and do better in future Miss .............. :-( :-P ;-)
|
Its a good thing I come along and check your posts then init Baggage?????
Glad to hear you will try to do better Baggage...ABOUT TIME.. :-P :-P :-P
