Searching for information on Joseph LOWE/LOW, Private, 4th.Bn. 60th. Reg. 1818. Was a soldier presumably on ship taking convicts to Australia. Deserted at Demerary, was charged, and convicted to Life in Australia, 14th. January, 1818. He was 22 Years of age. Gained his Ticket of Leave 18th June, 1830, and married Mary McQueen, native of Hull, aged 19 years, and also a convict. On his records, Joseph was listed as native of Nottingham, with occupation as Groom. I have family records from this time, but would like to know of Joseph's family and life in Nottingham about the early 1800's, and when he joined the army. Our family line has always used LOW as the spelling of our surname.

Hi Betty,

I know this is an old post so I will cross my fingers that you are still active on this site...

I am a descendant of Joseph Low(e) through his son William. I don't believe I have much more information on Joseph than you have listed above but am happy to share what I have. I am also curious where you discovered Joseph's Army Rank, Battalion and Regiment - I have been hunting that information for a while now with no luck.

I recently found a christening transcript for a Joseph Lowe (03/01/1796) in Radford, Nottinghamshire, England also listing Thomas Lowe and Mary as his parents. I have yet to confirm this is the Joseph Low(e) in my tree.

Regards Alicha
