We are extremely excited here in the office today as we have just added Scottish records to the site. We have the Scottish census collection from 1841 right the way through to 1901. So, for those of you with Scottish ancestry you can now start filling in the gaps.
If you are a Platinum member then you get unlimited access to the Scottish records as part of your subscription. If you use pay-per-view credits they are just 5 credits each view.
We have both individual and household transcriptions. We do not have copies of actual census images.
We would love to know how you get on with the new records. So if you find the Scottish ancestors you were looking for, or maybe some you didn't know you had, then please comment on this post!

As you will be aware, the transcripts have been in ancestry for quite a while and, more recently, in find my past; and the images, with other Scottish records, will only be in http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
Why put the records in genes reunited when they have been in other sites for a while? |

I've had a brief look into Scotlands People and find it really poor compared with FREE sites like... www.freebmd.org.uk

I cannot see why anyone would want to look at Scottish records and have to use 5 credits to view only a transcript of the census records on here, when they can view the actual record for the same on Scotlandspeople.
As Joy has stated they have been on Ancestry for ages. |

Sites under the Brightsolid umbrella (see the footers of home pages):-
All GenesReunited; Findmypast; Scotlandspeople. So when it comes to records for Scotland, the same data should be available on all Brightsolid sites. Or is that too simplistic an approach? |

The transcripts of Scottish records are a welcome addition. I have a host of my people there and have used Scotland's People for years. You cannot beat real actual images but transcripts are welcome non the less. Well done Genes - about time.
Next target - US records, please. :0) |

I have only recently taken an annual sub with GR, and was dissappointed to find no Scottish records available. As I have not subscribed to other sites yet, it is very welcome to see the transcripts on GR. Keep up the good work, and give us access to the originals soon.
It will guarantee many more hours of research on GR, instead of paying additional sub's and using competitors websites. |

I think this is great! Why subscribe to loads of different sites, when you can search all the records on here now? Thanks team GR.

Beau Bear.........
It is unlikely in the extreme that you'll ever see the originals anywhere other than Scotlands people Christopher.......... freebmd does NOT include Scotland, so your comparison makes no sense |

I hope this will help as one line of my family seems to have crossed the boarder from Scotland to Northumberland, England. Dawn

I think it will be helpful to have his information on GR as well as England and Wales. The broader the coverage on this site the better. I've been using GR simply to store my data from SP plus visits to the Scotlands People centre in Edinburgh.
I've come to like the new GR software very much and hope they keep adding new resources. |

Many, well me anyways, also have Irish (usually Northern Irish) somewhere in our Scottish blood; when can we expect Irish records to be available?

census records ~ only transcriptions? No thanks, I've found many errors on them, I much prefer to decipher the scrawl myself :-)
Scotland's People has the census for 1911, why doesn't GR? :-( No mention of Births, Deaths & Marriages. A wee bit misleading :-| :-| :-| BTW ~ Scotland is on Freecen, but Scotland is NOT on free bdm. |

Great to see the Scottish census records will be a great help to my research. I hope that we can have the births, marriages and deaths at some point that would be the icing on the cake well done Genes :-)

I am afraid that I totally disagree with the comments made by Howard Ronald.
I have been a member for some years & have assisted & have had the assistance of many members in tracing family members. I now know of family names of whom I had no knowledge that are my ancestors I have also found out that I am a mongrel(i.e. I have English,Scottish & Irish Ancestry) I have found first cousins living in Canada that I did not know existed. We have been in contact & now communicate regularly. This would not have been possible without the aid of GR members I think that it is only good manners to ask permission to view someone's tree after all it is their tree not yours. Please also bear in mind that people give their time trying to assist for no financial reward Regards, Dougie. :-) |

I think it will be helpful to have his information on GR. Wonderful.

In answer to Howard RonaldI must point out that most people I have contacted to seek their permission to view their tress have been very helpful. Without Genes Reunited I doubt if I would have got as much information about my family tree as I already have.

Been a member for a few years now. Had a lot of help from other people on the site and have unearthed loads of family I had never heard of. However there does come a time when you have to put yourself out and travel to the parishes if you wish to carry on. Thank you Genes and all the people out there who have been so much help. Will stay with Genes as you never know when you could need them again. The Scottish Records would have been a boon to me had I not come across a lovely relation called Hugh who helped me with in formation on the Gallety family, a big big thank you to you. Regards Jan Webb

It seems that in order to access this information I have to subscribe to premium, why can't this be part of the normal service? Disappointing.

There doesn't seem to be access to Scottish birth certificates and we've just paid for a month under false pretences
I want my money back. :-| |

When I paid for subscription for platinum membership I expected to see Scottish Church records. I am very disappointed that I have basically lost my money to this. I only wanted Scottish records. :-(
